BUILD ON THE ROCK - Franklin E. Belden, 1886

We’ll build on the Rock, the living Rock,
On Jesus, the Rock of Ages;
So shall we abide the fearful shock,
When loud the tempest rages.

Refrain

We’ll build on the Rock,
We’ll build on the Rock;
We’ll build on the Rock, on the solid Rock,
On Christ, the mighty Rock.

Some build on the sinking sands of life,
On visions of earthly treasure;
Some build on the waves of sin and strife,
Of fame, and worldly pleasure.

Refrain

O build on the Rock, for ever sure,
The firm and the true foundation;
Its hope is the hope which shall endure,
The hope of our salvation.

Refrain

Matthew 7:24-25 "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock."

http://youtu.be/25_LVO_YV74 ♪ Great Is Thy Faithfulness ♪

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

[Refrain]

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Lamentations 3:22-23 "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."

Overshadowed - Words and music: H A Ironside and George S Schuler

How desolate my life would be
How dark and drear my nights and days
If Jesus' face I did not see
To brighten all earth's ways

Chorus:
I'm overshadowed by His mighty love
Love eternal, changeless, pure
Overshadowed by His mighty love
Rest is mine, serene, secure
He died to ransom me from sin
He lives to keep me day by day
I'm overshadowed by His mighty love
Love that brightens all my way

With burdened heart I wandered long
By grief and unbelief distressed
But now I sing faith's happy song
In Christ my Saviour I am blessed

Now judgment fears no more alarm
I dread not death, nor Satan's power
The world for me has lost it's charm
God's grace sustains me every hour

Luke 1:35 "And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

“Jesus Loves Even Me”

I am so glad that our Father in Heav’n
Tells of His love in the Book He has giv’n;
Wonderful things in the Bible I see,
This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.

Refrain

I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves even me.

Though I forget Him, and wander away,
Still He doth love me wherever I stray;
Back to His dear loving arms I do flee,
When I remember that Jesus loves me.

Refrain

Oh, if there’s only one song I can sing,
When in His beauty I see the great King,
This shall my song through eternity be,
Oh, what a wonder that Jesus loves me!

Refrain

Jesus loves me, and I know I love Him;
Love brought Him down my poor soul to redeem;
Yes, it was love made Him die on the tree;
Oh, I am certain that Jesus loves me!

Refrain

If one should ask of me, how can I tell?
Glory to Jesus, I know very well!
God’s Holy Spirit with mine doth agree,
Constantly witnessing Jesus loves me.

Refrain

In this assurance I find sweetest rest,
Trusting in Jesus, I know I am blessed;
Satan, dismayed, from my soul now doth flee,
When I just tell him that Jesus loves me.

Refrain

* Romans 5:5 "And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us."

Words & Music: Philip P. Bliss, 1870

I think it was in June, 1870, that “Jesus Loves Even Me” was written. Mr. and Mrs. Bliss were at that time members of my family, at 43 South May street, Chicago [Illinois]. One morning, Mrs. Bliss came down to breakfast and said, as she entered the room: Last night Mr. Bliss had a tune given to him that I think is going to live and be one of the most used that he has written. I have been singing it all morning to myself and cannot get it out of my mind. She then sang over to us the notes of “Jesus Loves Me”. The idea of Bliss in writing it was that the peace and comfort of a Christian were not founded his loving Christ, but upon Christ’s love to him, and that to occupy the mind with Christ’s love, would produce love and consecration…How much God has used this little song to lead sinners and doubting Christians to look away to Jesus, eternity alone can tell.

~I Am So Glad That Jesus Loves Me

Dr. P.P. Bliss, the evangelistic singer and composer, said that he wrote the sacred song, “I am So Glad that Jesus Loves Me,” when he was a young man.

Growing older, however, he realized more deeply how insignificant is our love toward God compared to His love for us.

Hence, in his later years, he wrote that appealing hymn, which children so love to sing—and which is good for grownups too:

I am so glad that our Father in heaven
Tells of His love in the Book He has given;

Wonderful things in the Bible I see,

This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.

Jesus Loves Even Me

(1) I am so glad that my Father in heaven

Tells of His love in the Book He has given;

Wonderful things in the Bible I see-

This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.

CHORUS:

I am so glad that Jesus loves me,

Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me;

I am so glad that Jesus loves me,

Jesus loves even me.

(2) Though I forget Him and wander away,

Still Jesus loves me wherever I stray;

Back to His dear loving arms I would flee,

When I remember that Jesus loves me.

(3) O if there's only one song I can sing,

When in His beauty I see the great King,

This shall my song in eternity be:

"O, what a wonder that Jesus loves me!"

I will sing the wondrous story
Of the Christ who died for me,
How He left His home in glory
For the cross of Calvary.

Yes, I’ll sing the wondrous story
Of the Christ who died for me,
Sing it in the light of glory,
Sing it through eternity.

I was lost, but Jesus found me,
Found the sheep that went astray,
Threw His loving arms around me,
Drew me back into His way.

I was bruised, but Jesus healed me;
Faint was I from many a fall;
Sight was gone, and fears possessed me,
But He freed me from them all.

Days of darkness still come o’er me,
Sorrow’s paths I often tread,
But the Savior still is with me;
By His hand I’m safely led.

He will keep me till the rapture,
Day by day He’ll wash my feet,
And will transform all my nature
That in glory we may meet.

I love to tell the story

I love to tell the story
Of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory,
Of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story,
Because I know ’tis true;
It satisfies my longings
As nothing else can do.

I love to tell the story,
’Twill be my theme in glory
To tell the old, old story
of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story;
More wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies
Of all my golden dreams,
I love to tell the story,
It did so much for me;
And that is just the reason
I tell it now to thee.

I love to tell the story;
’Tis pleasant to repeat
What seems each time I tell it,
More wonderfully sweet.
I love to tell the story;
For some have never heard
The message of salvation
From God’s own holy Word.

I love to tell the story;
For those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
To hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the new, new song,
’Twill be the old, old story,
That I have loved so long.

* Kate Hankey, the daughter of a prosperous British banker, grew up in a stylish London suburb. She started a Bible class for girls in her neighborhood, and then when she was only 18, Hankey went to London to teach a Bible class of "factory girls." In her 20's, she started other Bible classes for factory girls.
When she was in her early 30's, Kate Hankey became seriously ill. Doctors said she needed a year of bed rest. She was forbidden to teach Bible classes for 12 months. During her long, slow recovery, she wrote 2 lengthy poems. The 1st, at the beginning of her convalescence, later became the hymn, "Tell, Me the Old, Old Story." The 2nd, written 10 months later, became "I Love to Tell the Story."
After 10 months, she felt strong enough to leave her bed. She soon returned to her Bible classes in London and continued teaching for many years. - Great Songs of Faith by Brown & Norton

* Words: A. Katherine Hankey, 1866.

Music: William G. Fischer, Joyful Songs, Nos. 1 to 3 (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Methodist Episcopal Book Room, 1869)

* This is from a long poem on the life of Jesus that was written in 1866. It is in two parts. The first part is a poem of fifty stanzas, and is titled, The Story Wanted being dated January 29, 1866. The second part is titled The Story Told, and is dated November 18, 1866. It is said that the author had a serious spell of sickness just before this poem was composed, and that she occupied the long days of convalescence in writing the poem. Certain verses were taken fro Part I. by Dr. W. H. Doane in 1867 to make the popular and familiar hymn beginning, Tell me the old, old story, for which he composed the familiar tune to which those words are commonly sung. From Part II. certain verses have been selected to make the above hymn, I Love to Tell the Story, the tune to which was composed by W. G. Fischer. This is one of the most popular of all modern hymns, and has been translated into several different languages. These and other hymns by the author have been published from time to time in different forms, sometimes accompanied by tunes composed by herself. Many of her hymns are found in a little volume which she published in 1870, titled Heart to Heart. Very few hymns written in the last fifty years have so taken hold of the hearts of the people, both the young and the old, as has this simple little song.

Nutter, p. 286

Last winter a young man appeared here from British Columbia, says a letter from Surrey, England. He was in the Royal Marines. He was a total abstainer and was doing all he could to promote temperance among his comrades. While here he went to church, and the curate, who had a conversation with him, was much pleased with his manly behavior and resolute desire to do right. He wore a medal and had good conduct marks on his clothes. This man was the little boy whom Miss T. had picked up in Battersea Park many years before, and who had learned of the gospel of salvation entirely by listening to the maidservants singing sacred songs while scrubbing the doorsteps and cleaning windows. The hymn that, as a child, he seemed to make entirely his own was, ‘I love to tell the story,’ though he knew several others when he was picked up in the park. As he had never been to church or chapel, the hymns were the only channel through which divine truth had been conveyed to him, and by which the first seed was sown in his heart that made him a man of character and usefulness.

Sankey, pp. 164-5

♫ Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your many blessings see what God has done. ♫ (J. Oatman)

http://youtu.be/N3JMe_gH7j8 count your many blessings

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Refrain:

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
*Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.
[*And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.]

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.

When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings—*money cannot buy [*wealth can never buy]
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

Count Your Blessings

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who was, and is, and evermore shall be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in pow'r, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name, in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

https://www.hymnal.net/en/hymn/h/324 ... Beulah means Married in Hebrew (cf. Isaiah 62:4)

♪ Dwelling in Beulah Land ♫

Charles A. Miles, 1911

Main subject: Sanctification

Scripture: Isaiah 62:4; Joel 3:18

Far away the noise of strife upon my ear is falling;
Then I know the sins of earth beset on every hand;
Doubt and fear and things of earth in vain to me are calling;
None of these shall move me from Beulah Land.

Refrain:

I’m living on the mountain, underneath a cloudless sky,
I’m drinking at the fountain that never shall run dry;
Oh, yes! I’m feasting on the manna from a bountiful supply,
For I am dwelling in Beulah Land.

Far below the storm of doubt upon the world is beating,
Sons of men in battle long the enemy withstand;
Safe am I within the castle of God’s Word retreating;
Nothing then can reach me—’tis Beulah Land.

Let the stormy breezes blow, their cry cannot alarm me;
I am safely sheltered here, protected by God’s hand;
Here the sun is always shining, here there’s naught can harm me;
I am safe forever in Beulah Land.

Viewing here the works of God, I sink in contemplation;
Hearing now His blessed voice, I see the way He planned;
Dwelling in the Spirit, here I learn of full salvation;
Gladly I will tarry in Beulah Land.

~ via: Jesus Calling by Sarah Young ~ Question: What is your favorite hymn?

"One of the best ways to draw upon My strength is to sing praises to Me. I actually dwell in the praises of My people. So when problems are weighing heavily upon you, break free by worshiping Me—in songs, in shouts, even in whispers. These sacred acclamations decimate the darkness and invite Me into your awareness, brightening the atmosphere around you." -Jesus Today by Sarah Young, p. 36

https://youtu.be/u0ywDLpfBHg My Country Tis of Thee (lyrics)

1
My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From ev'ry mountainside
Let freedom ring!

2
My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture thrills,
Like that above.

3
Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song;
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.

4
Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's holy light,
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God our King.

Additional verse to celebrate Washington's Centennial:[5]

5
Our joyful hearts today,
Their grateful tribute pay,
Happy and free,
After our toils and fears,
After our blood and tears,
Strong with our hundred years,
O God, to Thee.

Additional verses by Henry van Dyke:

6
We love thine inland seas,
Thy groves and giant trees,
Thy rolling plains;
Thy rivers' mighty sweep,
Thy mystic canyons deep,
Thy mountains wild and steep,--
All thy domains.

7
Thy silver Eastern strands,
Thy Golden Gate that stands
Fronting the West;
Thy flowery Southland fair,
Thy North's sweet, crystal air:
O Land beyond compare,
We love thee best!

Additional Abolitionist verses by A. G. Duncan, 1843:[6]

8
My country, 'tis of thee,
Stronghold of slavery, of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Where men man’s rights deride,
From every mountainside thy deeds shall ring!

9
My native country, thee,
Where all men are born free, if white’s their skin;
I love thy hills and dales,
Thy mounts and pleasant vales;
But hate thy negro sales, as foulest sin.

10
Let wailing swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees the black man’s wrong;
Let every tongue awake;
Let bond and free partake;
Let rocks their silence break, the sound prolong.

11
Our father’s God! to thee,
Author of Liberty, to thee we sing;
Soon may our land be bright,
With holy freedom’s right,
Protect us by thy might, Great God, our King.
12
It comes, the joyful day,
When tyranny’s proud sway, stern as the grave,
Shall to the ground be hurl’d,
And freedom’s flag, unfurl’d,
Shall wave throughout the world, O’er every slave.

13
Trump of glad jubilee!
Echo o’er land and sea freedom for all.
Let the glad tidings fly,
And every tribe reply,
“Glory to God on high,” at Slavery’s fall.

~ Brother Lester Roloff - ♫ When Jesus Comes ♪ ~ he was born on June 28, 1914 in Dawson, Texas and grew up there on a cotton farm. At the age of 12, he was saved, and at the age of 18, he surrendered to the Lord's call to preach. He graduated from Baylor University and attended Southwestern Seminary for nearly three years. During this time, he pastored two part-time churches. He then pastored four full-time churches before the Lord called him, in 1951, to be a full-time evangelist. ~

https://youtu.be/6zCxPcpMsyY

One sat alone beside the highway begging,
His eyes were blind, the light he could not see.
He clutched his rags and shivered in the shadows
Then Jesus came and bade his darkness flee.

Chorus:
When Jesus comes, the tempter's power is broken;
When Jesus comes, the tears are wiped away,
He takes the gloom and fills the life with glory,
For all is changed when Jesus comes to stay.

From home and friends the evil spirits drove him,
Among the tombs he dwelt in misery;
He cut himself as demon powers possessed him,
Then Jesus came and set the captive free.

Chorus:
When Jesus comes, the tempter's power is broken;
When Jesus comes, the tears are wiped away,
He takes the gloom and fills the life with glory,
For all is changed when Jesus comes to stay.

"Unclean, unclean!" the leper cried in torment,
The deaf, the dumb, in helplessness stood near;
The fever raged, disease had gripped its' victim,
Then Jesus came and cast out every fear.

Chorus:
When Jesus comes, the tempter's power is broken;
When Jesus comes, the tears are wiped away,
He takes the gloom and fills the life with glory,
For all is changed when Jesus comes to stay.

Their hearts were sad as in the tomb they laid him,
For death had come and taken him away;
Their night was dark and bitter tears were falling,
Then Jesus came and night was turned to day.

Chorus:
When Jesus comes, the tempter's power is broken;
When Jesus comes, the tears are wiped away,
He takes the gloom and fills the life with glory,
For all is changed when Jesus comes to stay.

So men today have found the Savior able,
They could not conquer passion, lust and sin;
Their broken hearts had left them sad and lonely,
Then Jesus came and dwelt, Himself, within.

Chorus:
When Jesus comes, the tempter's power is broken;
When Jesus comes, the tears are wiped away,
He takes the gloom and fills the life with glory,
For all is changed when Jesus comes to stay.

The lyrics to the Gospel song, "When Jesus Comes" is by Oswald Smith and the music is by Homer Rodeheaver.

♫ i need Thee every hour ♪

☆ This Is The Time; This Is The Hour ☆

The Lord our God will say to us
To not limit what He can do,
For He is a God of the unlimited,
There's nothing He can’t do through you

For God is doing a new thing
In our lives, today, this hour
To raise us up to be His army,
Clothing us with His power

Remember not the former things,
The things that are in the past
Behold, He is doing a new thing
And will capture human hearts

It's time now to go out and gather
In the harvest of the Lord,
For there are many whose souls are ready
More than we've known before

So take His light into those places
Of darkness and misery,
That they may know the God of love
To give hope and a destiny

Then they may shine right where they are
So others may come to the light
And they in turn may come to know
The saving grace of Christ

Then Jesus' light may radiate there
Like a beacon in the night,
No longer groping in the darkness,
But shining forth God's light

May the spirit of God arise in you
And empower you much more
So His glory may be seen with you
As you proclaim the risen Lord

2 Timothy 2:3 "Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ."

Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Matthew 9:37 "Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; "

There Is Joy In The Haven of Rest
· March 20, 2013 ·

My soul in sad exile was out on life’s sea,
So burdened with sin and distressed,
Till I heard a sweet voice, saying,
“Make Me your choice”;
And I entered the “Haven of Rest”!

I’ve anchored my soul in the “Haven of Rest,”
I’ll sail the wide seas no more;
The tempest may sweep over wild, stormy, deep,
In Jesus I’m safe evermore.
I yielded myself to His tender embrace,
In faith taking hold of the Word,
My fetters fell off, and I anchored my soul;
The “Haven of Rest” is my Lord.

The song of my soul, since the Lord made me whole,
Has been the old story so blest,
Of Jesus, who’ll save whosoever will have
A home in the “Haven of Rest.”

How precious the thought that we all may recline,
Like John, the belovèd so blest,
On Jesus’ strong arm, where no tempest can harm,
Secure in the “Haven of Rest.”

O come to the Savior, He patiently waits
To save by His power divine;
Come, anchor your soul in the “Haven of Rest,”
And say, “My Belovèd is mine.”

Wow! This is truly amazing. It takes a little time for the video to unfold. But if you'll watch the whole thing, I think you will be able to see the true brilliance of Bach. Simple, but ingenious. That's what partly makes Bach so appealing to me. Also knowing that he set out to write every work to glorify God! See this is what every Christian is capable of. Writing music, poems, or whatever you do. If you'll do it to glorify God completely you'll be able, to be the best at what ever you do. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Philippians 4:13 AKJV. ~
