I highly recommend a book I am about half through called "That Use To Be Us" by Tom Friedman and Michael Mandelbaum. It tells how other countries are borrowing from us those things necessary for success and then oututdoing us with them.
I know it is fashionable to blame Obama and liberals for all oue woes but it just aint so. We have been losing our edge for decades now. The good news according to the authors is that it is not too late. We can by working hard and smart and with emphasis on education and lifetime learning regain our place as leaders in virtually all the areas where we have fallen behind. |

Get the federal government's nose out of education and we'll start improving. You want to know when we started lagging? Check out the 1960's. _________________ I'm a happy Deplorable that likes my Crumbs!

Just glanced on here and saw the post about James Lee Burke, he is my favorite fiction writer! He is from New Iberia but in recent years resides in Montana as well. He has been awarded the Edgar award twice for mystery writing. That's kinda like getting and oscar for a movie. He has been named the best living mystery writer in the U.S. I have all of his books. Ok, guess you can say I am a fan LOL! |

I received the new Stephen King book 11-22-63 from my daughter for Christmas and it sure is good.
Also received from her the "Crime Story" Complete Series 25th Anniversary DVD boxed set. Loved that show when it was on tv. Anyone remember it? A Chicago cop show set in the 50's. _________________ You can be thin and wrinkly or have another bowl of banana pudding and fluff that stuff out! |

Hey Sparkie, I heard about that! Read a synopsis and reviews, it looks like a good again! You can pre-order on Amazon, think that's what I will do. I just got a new one a few weeks ago I haven't had time to start but will this week called "The Presidents Club". Think it is going to be pretty good. |

Google honors Herman Melville with a nice Moby Dick Doodle. Captain Ahab stands on a boat -- and the sperm whale Moby Dick can be seen in the background. The Melville-Doodle looks like a old-fashined woodcut-print illustration.
Herman Melville was born on Aug 1st, 1819. He was an American novelist, short story writer, essayist, and poet. He is best known for his book Moby-Dick. When Herman Melville died in 1891, he was almost completely forgotten. It was not until the "Melville Revival" in the early 20th century that his work won recognition, especially Moby-Dick, which was hailed as one of the literary masterpieces of both American and world literature.

I never did finish reading that big thick book that came to me via the mailbox years ago -- sold it in a rummage sale --- it was a BEAUTIFUL book, think it came from a masterpiece collection, oh-well ~ _________________ We don't have much, what we have, we share. |
