Almost finished with reading Creole Belle by James Lee Burke. If you like great mystery/crime stuff, he is one of the best. He is from Louisiana and one series of his books all take place in and around New Iberia and New Orleans. He has won the Edgar Award 2X for best mystery writer, thats sorta like a literary equivalent of the Oscar or Golden Globe for movies. Recently read The Devils Punchbowl by Greg Iles, he is from Natchez. I met him a few years ago down there, real nice guy, and his books consistently hit the NY Times Best seller list. He is another mystery/crime writer that uses his local surroundings as the setting for his stories. |

I tried my best to make Creole Belle last as long as I could. Hate for any of his books to end! Seems as if I have read Devils Punchbowl also. _________________ You can be thin and wrinkly or have another bowl of banana pudding and fluff that stuff out! |

1 January 2013 is the first blank page of 365 page book. Write a GOOD ONE.
"We will open the book.
Its pages are blank.
We are going to put words on them ourselves.
The book is called Opportunity
and its first chapter is New Year's Day."

- Paul Mitchell photo
Books. They are lined up on shelves or stacked on a table. There they are wrapped up in their jackets, lines of neat print on nicely bound pages. They look like such orderly, static things. Then you, the reader come along. You open the book jacket, and it can be like opening the gates to an unknown city, or opening the lid of a treasure chest. You read the first word and you're off on a journey of exploration and discovery... - David Almond _________________ We don't have much, what we have, we share. |

James Lee Burke's new novel "Light of the World" release date July 23. Another Dave/Clete and Alafair this time around, set in Montana. I've already requested it from Amber for Mother's Day! _________________ You can be thin and wrinkly or have another bowl of banana pudding and fluff that stuff out! |

Did you know that at one time the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Department consisted of only one man? Or, that three past Sheriff’s were murdered? Or that one Sheriff fled never to return for fear he would be killed? Those are just some of the stories you’ll find in THE SHERIFFS OF OUACHITA , the first and only complete roster of Ouachita’s top lawmen featuring rare photos historical vignettes about them dating back to 1793 including their powerful influence over public officials throughout northeast Louisiana and how that sometimes resulted in tragedy. Did you know that at one time the Ouachita Sheriff's Department consisted of only one person? Or, that three past Sheriffs were murdered, one of them during a mob-led jail break; or that one Sheriff fled in fear for his life and never returned? These are just some of the stories you'll find in THE SHERIFFS OF OUACHITA, the first and only complete roster of Ouachita's top lawmen featuring rare photographs, documents, and personal vignettes about them dating back to 1793. The book also traces the powerful influence some of these men had over politics throughout northeast Louisiana which sometimes led to tragedy. Get your signed copy this Saturday for just $12 at Monroe's Downtown RiverMarket... just steps away from where much of Ouachita's history happened.
* setting up tomorrow probably around 10a.m. I think that's when they officially open the event. Somewhere around that time. * _________________ We don't have much, what we have, we share. |
