If you know anyone in Fiji, find a way to alert them now. Tropical Cyclone Evan is expected to become very powerful with sustained winds of 155mph within 24 hours as it approaches. One little wobble to the south and this could be a devastating natural disaster there.

This is Victoria who was killed after she hid her first graders in closets and cabinets and told the shooter they were in the gym. All of the kids in her class were unharmed.
We Salute her!

There may be no snow in sight for the East yet, but today it snowed in Flagstaff, Arizona! Over a foot of snow has fallen so far there.

The storm we mentioned the other day beared down on Fij earlier today. Tropical Cyclone Evan hammered the island of Vanau Levu in Fiji making a right turn and moved over the west side of the main island. Tavua, Nadi, and Lautoka were hardest hit, while Suva the biggest threat will be from mudslides with all the heavy rain. Maximum sustained winds were at 135mph.

More strange goings on as rare December thunderstorms move through, just before sunset---leaving us with reports of beautiful rainbows throughout the region. This one in particular is like a hopeful message ---Craig Allen

Conditions will deteriorate in the Midwest overnight through Thursday as a powerful Winter Storm brings heavy snow and blizzard conditions to parts of the region. Wisconsin has already declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm. For those there, send us your pics once the storm arrives and we will share them.

Map by DT/wxrisk

1ST Call Snow Forecast Map for the Midwest event 20-21 that is now beginning to take place.

We continue to watch the chance of a coating of snow for Tuesday morning on the East Coast as well as a potentially more significant storm the day after.

❈ Developing Now: The 0z GFS run is coming in and it has shifted East in a big way. It now shows a Significant Snowstorm for the 26th-27th for all of NYC, NJ, New England, Eastern PA into Philly and even Southern NJ. Also shows ice could be a big problem for MD and VA. If you want snow, the trend right now is your friend.

Looking over some weather models here are a few bullet points.
1- expect some rain & gusty winds thurs night into fri am. then cold air rushes in.
2- there may be a sneaky system that COULD bring SOME snow on Tuesday.
3- The storm for after Tuesday is very much in play. That would be a major player!
4- there is another storm behind it around for new yrs day.
5- If you like cold/snow, your time looks more and more likely that it is coming!
- Adam

Here is how much snow the GFS model says will fall by the day after New Year's. Cold and Stormy pattern for much of the Midwest and East. This is not a forecast by us and just what one model is showing. Just know that the general trend over the next 10 days is to more cold and more storms.

Over 3 feet of snow has fallen in rural Northern California since yesterday. Mary Adams sent in this pic to us saying that much snow there is very rare.

Next storm on the Euro model for this weekend shows what could be a major Nor'easter with Snow for the big cities of the I-95 region. Still early but this storm should be a little colder and further south then upcoming one.
We will continue to monitor this potential as we remain in a very active and stormy pattern. via ZoomRadar

Heading South Tuesday? Have family in areas highlighted? Let them know to be alert! There is going to be a Tuesday Nightmare outbreak of strong tornadoes and severe weather across the Southeast. Atmospheric dynamics are ripe to set-off a round of violent thunderstorms and large, destructive tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center considers this area to be under a high-threat risk: east central Louisiana, south-central Mississippi, and east central Alabama. The threat of showers and storms, possibly severe, extends from eastern Texas to northeastern Georgia and includes portions of the Florida gulf coast too.
If you or someone you know will be in this area, be alert!

The midday model runs are coming in and are looking much better for snow for the storm on the 30th for everyone. From DT:

*** ALERT *** WOOF *** FOR DEC 30....

12Z run of the DEC 24TH EURO model NOW MUCH FURTHER SOUTH WITH DEC 30 LOW...

which MEANS a colder track and MUCH more snow for all of the I-95 big cities.

SNOW much of western and central VA.. snow ... heavy snow into Maryland all of central and eastern PA, NJ, NYC, se NY, Long island CT, RI, central and eastern mass
