About.

Tri-State Weather is your premier destination for the latest information on weather happenings in the Northeast and major events across the U.S.

Description
Stay with us for the latest on Winter Storms, Tropical Weather, Space Weather, Tornadoes, T-Storms & other weather events effecting the East Coast and the whole U.S. Remember, you heard it hear first!

Arrow This satellite image was from earlier this morning. The equivalent of a category-five monster right now, Super Typhoon Bopha is packing 160 mph winds and is about to wreak havoc on the Philippines.

Arrow Super Typhoon Bopha now minutes away from landfall in the Philippines. Winds still 160mph with gusts to 200mph. No change on Satellite. All of the Philippines will be affected by this powerful storm over the next 2 - 3 days. This is coming in as a Cat 5 monster storm and huge wave surge will occur. Worst case scenario. Keep the people there in your thoughts and prayers.

Arrow This stunning photo of Typhoon Bopha baring down on the Philippines with winds up to 200mph was taken by an astronaut on the International Space Station. Reports from the PNA coming out of the Philippines already of dozens dead, many more missing and homes demolished by the most powerful storm to strike the region in many decades. The reporter described the houses being just blown away and the roofs flying through the area like machetes. Forecasters there are saying this storm is rare in that it formed differently then most and it took a path over the more populated area, which tropical storms there rarely do.

HERE'S THE LATEST TWO-WEEK TEMPERATURE TRENDS OUTLOOK FROM NOAA'S CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER -- It shows unseasonably mild weather persisting across the eastern half of the country through Dec. 19th. This warm December weather is getting interesting...

we take this brief break from the weather to tell you this is not a joke: Pizza Hut has unveiled a new perfume to give you that "freshly baked, hand-tossed dough" smell. The limited-edition perfume features subtle notes of freshly baked dough and seasoning, a Pizza Hut spokesperson told Business Insider. Would you ever wear it?

Arrow Did you know that the 4:23 pm sunset this afternoon is the earliest the Sun sets all year? In just over a week, the time of sunset will start getting later each day.

The weather will be bouncing all around for the next 5-7 days; something different each day.
In a few hours, freezing rain will arrive in western NJ. An advisory for light icing is in effect for Sussex and Warren this morning. Rest of the area- clouding up with a chilly rain developing, a couple hours either side of lunchtime from west to east.
A dreary damp night into Sat morning. Then a break and milder. Then turning cooler again on Sunday with rain redeveloping later in the day into the night. Then milder again Monday with showers and possibly even a thunderstorm. Then lingering showers Tue and much cooler. --Meteorologist Craig Allen

People are asking us about the potential for snow around the 18th along the East Coast, and the GFS does a show a storm, but this graphic from DT explains why it is likely wrong and will track much further inland, putting the Northeast and mid-atlantic on the warm side of the storm. No sustained cold or snow for the next week plus. We continue to monitor the chance of another storm comes into play with a better shot at cold/snow. While you may hear others talk about how a pattern change is here, in the end it doesn't matter how you get to third base if the end result is the same, which in this case is more rain.

Many people have been asking since others are hyping, and yes we continue to monitor a couple potential storms for the East Coast as we enter a more active period for next week. As of now those South of I-95 are more likely to be Wet then W
hite for the storm come the 20th. Those further inland and higher elevations have a better chance at seeing snow along with ski resorts should get some fresh powder. Remember, this is still a week away - way too early to pinpoint who gets what(rain, snow or out to sea). As always, no hype here, just the facts.

Tonight beginning at 7:30pm eastern time and continuing for several hours, the largest ever relief concert will air for Sandy. Numerous Stars will be performing and dozens of networks will be airing the show live from MSG in the U.S. Over 1 billion people worldwide will be able to see the show.

Discussion on the storms for Next week:

VERY LOW CONFIDENCE IN THE FORECAST AFTER MONDAY! -- After Monday the models sadly begin to diverge . . . rather radically in fact. If we take the GFS at face value, then Tuesday evolves into a windy/rainy day as a new system from the Mississippi Valley sweeps rapidly toward the Mid-Atlantic Coast, bringing heavy rains and temperatures soaring to n
ear 50. The storm departs during Wednesday and sweeps a colder/drier airmass into our area for later next week. Meanwhile, the European model bring some rain or wet snow into our area on Tuesday . . . more the aftereffects of the system that passed on through during Sunday/Monday. Then on Wednesday, we begin to feel the effects of the system moving up from the southern US (a full day behind the timing of the GFS!). The Euro, in fact suggests a intensifying, coast hugging storm system that would bring a dose of heavy rain and strong winds for Wednesday and Wednesday night. As this system slowly departs on Thursday, it sweeps colder air in behind it, changing the rain over to snow along with a blustery northwest wind.

This model discrepancy . . . plus the fact that it is so much different from what both models were indicating yesterday (when ironically, they were both on the same page) . . . pretty much says that from next Monday onward, forecast confidence is VERY LOW. What we can say is that a significant storm seems to be a possibility, but the exact track and timing is very uncertain. Yesterday, I said that I fully expected "model waffling" and what we see today certainly is that. Thankfully, we still have 6 or 7 days to get a better handle on what we might be facing about the middle of next week. ---Meteorologist Joe Rao

Looks like the Eastern US will have the best views (weatherwise) of tonight's Geminid Meteor Shower. Many experienced skywatchers would say it’s the Geminids of December rather than the better-known Perseids of August that is the best one to watch. And this month the “Gems” ought to be as good as ever. Especially with the Moon at new phase, there will be no moonlight to interfere so observing conditions will be perfect! It will peak tonight during the overnight hours into the early hours of Friday. ---Joe Rao

Lots of people are reporting they have already starting seen some of the Meteors from the Geminid Meteor Shower and we are still several hours away from peak time. Peak time will be after midnight when over a hundred an hour should be visible. Have you seen them yet? - posted at 8:11 p.m.

Good morning everyone! The storm I been talking about for several days now is on the euro model as well as the GFS. Though 2 different solutions. The storm I am talking about is next fri/sat and that is the one I am looking for as a winter storm. Again I am sticking to mostly rain for the next 2 storms (may begin as a little mix NW NYC). Again above normal temps for the next several days! Enjoy your Friday and we will continue to update you on this potential winter storm a week from now! - Adam
